The pork pie was invented way back as a way to preserve meat by covering it in very salty pastry.
Not sure what year this would have been.

Mary Dickinson is credited with making the first Melton Mowbray pork pie, she lived between 1768-1841.
The name Melton Mowbray is only allowed to be applied to pork pies made within a 1,800 sq miles (4,662 sq km) zone around the town and with only uncured pork-filled pies given the Melton Mowbray name.
It is an EU designated and protected name.

However the first pork pies are believed to have been eaten as early as medieval times.
So it would be impossible to say who first did it
