earlier i had a cramp-like pain in the lower left abdomen which lasted for 15 minutes. it was as if i had dysmenorrhoea but only on the left side. i hurts whenever the left side gets pressed but it goes away when i stand up... after 15 minutes, it went away and i have no pain whatsoever anymore.

what could have caused this? anyone, help...

it went away on its own after 15 minutes. a few hours later though, i released a lot of gas. O_o and until now, i'm still occassionally burping gas.

My guess would be intestinal gas. I worked in an ER for a few years and remember a couple of people coming in for it ... they were a little embarrassed when they found out it wasn't cancer or something horrible, but they were relieved and it went away. Sometimes it hurts without added pressure.

Where it was only a 15 minute bout, that would be my best guess.

>>>I saw your additional comments. Definitely sounds like gas pains ... there is a reason babies cry so much when they have gas - it really hurts. Adults generally get the severe pain less often, but, though it makes me laugh (maybe I'm sophomore-ish), gas can be very painful.

As far as appendicitis, this doesn't sound like the case at all. Wrong abdominal quadrant, not a long enough duration of pain, and appendicitis pain generally is most severe when you release pressure from pushing over the appendix (something I learned while an EMT).

Try just passing it, if you can. If your someplace public or just can't, try Mylanta or some sort of gas medicine. You probably ate something that caused it, and may want to take Mylanta or whatever if you eat that food again.

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds as if you need to see one if it happens again. Knowing what it is requires one to know exactly where the pain is located. And usually a physical exam is the most reliable way to obtain that information. It could be bowel related or if lower it could be gynecologic. I could even be gas. No way of knowing accurately.

I have polycystic ovarian disease and when there is a cyst that bursts on my ovary, I feel similar pain.

However, I have had pain like you describe that is gas.

Try taking some gas-x and drink a carbonated white soda. That usually helps me when it is gas.

I hope you feel better soon, if not.. I would see a Dr.

You may want to go see a doctor, who will probably send you for an ultrasound. It could be appendicitis (which hurts on the opposite side of where they remove it from), which could burst and you could die from that. Or other scar tissue. I used to have pain on my right side and they claimed it was from my appendix scar, that my organs were catching on it and causing pain.
Make a doctors appointment!!!!

looking at the more common causes of sever prolonged pain in the lower abdomen. I'd have to say constipation....people forget how painfull it can get. But with any unknown new medical problem you should contact your doctor.

if you don't have a regular bowel elimination, i think that's the one causing the pain. you may be constipated. increase fiber in your diet, and taking metamucil or any kind of fiber laxative won't hurt says my own doctor because we need to get it rid of the body's waste products. buy one, anyway it's over the counter.

Maybe you have a cramp in your abdomen muscles. Or it's something you ate that is going down rough.
