I understand these relapses well. I have a suggestion you may want to try, that is a little easier on you. It is a nicotine addiction , so do not feel bad, keep trying. this time try weening yourself off the nicotine. allow yourself a certain number of cigarettes a day .You decide according to how much you smoke. Then start cutting say l or 2 less each day, when you are down to 3 cigarettes, you should have very little nicotine left, and go "cold turkey" give them up for good and use your will power. Now you would not want to start this all over again, since you are free from getting more nicotine into your system make up your mind, and do not buy them any more. You need to learn to keep your hands busy with some hobby like painting, or any hobby that you use your hands a lot with. . while you are cutting down and quitting, and stay away from smokers and smoking environments, until you feel that you are free from this habit, and are not able to stand the cigarette smoke then you will know that you are smoke free. It will be the best thing you have done for yourself and your family.

I quit 5 years ago and what seemed logical to me was to smoke a cigar once in a while if the cravings got really bad. That way I would not inhale (too strong), but I'd get the whole general smoking experience. That worked well. At first I had a couple a month, now I hardly ever even want a cigar, maybe a few a year (they are nasty). For me, there are no more cravings, it's just mental, mostly. I think the physical addiction is out of your system in a few days actually.

Hey EVERYbody~ I am 44 and have smoked for 32 years,, actually I have been addicted to nicotine since I was conceived!
I am willing to quit with the rest of YOU. We could form a email support group.

I know the "tricks" to stop smoking but NOT what to do at the 3 month mark where your every waking thought is ...have a cigarette, NO don't have a cigarette, have just Oooone cigarette..
Then I get RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM HELL..
and I can NOT pick myself back up.... UNTIL I smoke again.

Anyone willing to pick a quit date and prepare for OUR quit?

I feel your pain. My wife quit ten years ago and has never gone back to it. But she tells me that she still craves a cigarette every time she eats or drinks a alcoholic beverage. Which is like once a year, she might have a glass of wine. I on the other hand have tried to quit many times. And once I made it for six months. But then a traumatic event in my life was all it took to get me smoking again. Good luck.

It's not the addiction that keeps you reaching for it....it's the habit. Reach for something else. The nicotine only lasts in your system for about two weeks...it's the habit that will keep you hooked. I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day and quit in March of '03 and haven't had another one. Sure I kept reaching for them, but I stopped and asked myself why I was doing that because I certainly did not want to have a cigarette. Reprogram your brain whenever you reach for one...reach for something else...or go do a different activity to get your mind off of it. Believe me...the habit is the biggest culprit!

There are lots of smoking cessation aids out there. Personally, I've always tried to go with sheer willpower (it's the staying smoke-free that I have a problem with lol).

Man I've been through the sasme thing and after this pack I'm thinking of doing it again. The gum really does help but you gotta keep on that stuff and you just gotta get to that point and then let the will power take over.
