My best friend and her hubby adopted a girl who had just turned two. She was a high-needs child that was abused by her mom and her mom's new boyfriend (they locked her in a closet when they didn't want to deal with her). It took a lot of patience and love to get her straightened back out, but now she's a happy, normal 5 year old!

It's great that you're willing to adopt an older child! A big thumbs up to you!

congratulations, and i just would like to say.... thank you! give the child all the love and encouragement you can. the child will be so young, you will really make a diference in their life. it really takes some amazing people to adopt. someday you will be able to tell the child that, not all mommy's and daddy's get to pick out the child that was perfect for them, but that's what you got to do. and the child that was perfect for you was them. sounds sweet and helped me deal with the fact that i was a foster child. - best wishes!
