I have been a smoker for about a decade now...and hoping to quit very soon, but when I see ads on TV telling me why I should ...it makes me want to quit even less. I have done it before...and "cold turkey" is the best way. There is a difference in knowing the facts, but I don't like to be pushed.
In the last few years, smokers have become the outlaws. Don't get me wrong...I understand why people (who don't smoke) choose to be in a different location from the smoke itself...but dont hate us for it.
I think the best thing is to never start, but if you must smoke ...be respecful of others when in public areas.

There are social effects both ways. If you smoke, you are drawn to other people who smoke, especially if there are city/county bans on smoking in public. You tend to gravitate to the smoker's area or network outside of office buildings. The negatives would be that you smell bad to people who don't smoke, therefore if you are trying to get a job or trying to find a date and you smell like a cigarette, then you might be limiting your options. It's definately better to not smoke and eliminate your possiblities on your own.
