Then what about those countries that weren't saved-either because of being allied with Nazi-Germany or by falling under communist rule?

What parts of Europe did the US actually contribute to "save"? Britain and France? Should the whole of Europe be grateful for that?

Probably what save Europe was the Marshall Plan, which aided war torn Europe regain its footing again. George Marshall foresight kept communism at bay and provide money for rebuilding infrastucture and put millions of Europeans back on the payroll.

Italy was given more than a billion dollars and Germany nearly a billion and a half. France more than two billion and England more than 3 billion. Now is this billion, not million. If you are Danish, Denmark recieved nearly 4 hundred million dollars. So our enemies were aided and democracy replaced fascism.

You are right about the countries overrun by the Red Army. But to the US and the rest of the Allies, defeating Hilter was the goal. Sure in retrospect, we can say we should have pushed the Soviets out of Poland, East Germany, Hungary and where ever their evil control fell but by 1945, the Allies were sick of war and wanted to go home. And there was still a very hot war going on in the Pacific and to ratchet up the Euopean Theater would have meant years more of war.

And yeah, Europe should be grateful.

Go read your history books... read a few DOZEN of them so that you're not talking out of the side of your head. Research the Marshall Plan... and look at the countries that became part of NATO.

Compare the end of WWII with the years following WWI and note the differences. No depressions, minimal starvation and depravation... sucked though to fall behind the Iron Curtain.

And yes, Europe SHOULD be alittle grateful... at least the French are speaking French rather than German.

Since Germany Bans Nazism, I guess the Germans do. Many Germans ran like hell to the Americans as the Russian Justice was considered a tad Harsh. Italy was and Is greatful. They did ask for us to go many times and finally when we arrived thanked us. Ask you gran and Grandpa they need to give you the real deal on this.

It was the U.S that saved all of Western Europe up to Berlin. The Soviets liberated from Berlin east. Yes, Europe should be thankful we bailed them out of the jam called WW2. They should be on their knees kissing our feet.

From an American Citizen on behalf of his father who fought in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during WWII, and who lost his friends all along the way, you are welcome.
