1) Hot water treatment will only discolour the leaf as the chlorophyll is destroyed ; but it will also set in the rotting or decaying process.

2) Boiling in alcohol is costly and dangerous as it is inflammable.

3) Keep the leaf between two large blotting paper sheets or any absorbent paper sheets, but without any folds or warps in the leaf.
Change the paper every few days to avoid the fungal attack.

Gradually but surely the soft mesophyll tissue of the leaf will disappear and you will have a beautiful skeleton of the concerned leaf that is made up of lignified xylem tissue which resists the disintegration.

This method is very good for Ficus religiosa or The Peepal tree leaf you have in mind.

Just keep the leaf in the folds of a newspaper.

not sure, but try very hot water followed by immersing in very cold water
