it is-not as simple as mind over matter.
what exactly are you eating and how many times a day do you eat??
if you dont take in enough nutrients and calories you will feel hunger and hunger pain, and eventually go off the diet.
try this :
eat a well-balanced breakfast ( fruit, yogurt, hard boiled egg, toast. juice and milk. )
eat lunch : ( bowl of soup, small plate of green salad, crackers or toast, and juice and milk )
eat dinner : whatever you normally eat, make sure there are vegetables on your plate!! and drink milk. )
imbetween meals : drink alot of water, it will fill you up and your body needs water. you SHOULD take in at-least eight eight ounce glasses of water daily. especially when dieting. and if you still feel hungry snack on fresh fruits or raw vegetables.
DONT have : soda, potato chips, cookies, cake, you know : junk.
and be sure to EXERCISE ; dont over-do-it, start out lite with what YOU can handle without hurting yourself. but do exercise fifteen minutes a day. then work up to fifteen minutes twice a day.( mornings, then mornings and nights. ) the weight wont come off overnight, but it will come off. and you will feel great about yourself.

I too am trying to loose some weight gained over the holidays. have tried to differentiate between head and stomach hunger. This helps.
Every hour after my meal, I drink loads of water. Then follow with another long glass 2 hours afterwards.
I have surrounded myself with carrots and cucumber for snack and lemon slice for the water.
Here is a fact, if you can keep up the discipline for the first three days you are already half way there. Because the less food you eat, your tummy capacity adapts to your intake.
cheers....

like James i joined slimming world and lost 2 stone but once you eat normally again it all goes back on!!! i find drinking water and having chopped up fruit and veg which can easily be accessed is a good way of not getting too hungry! All the faddy diets in the world, i've tried them, don't help you long term, eat sensibly, drink plenty of water and get moving, i put on some cds and me and the kids dance!!! It don't have to be boring!!!!Honestly its so simple, cut out fat and sugar, use alternatives!!!! Good luck

Im not a fan of diets because they put your body in starvation mode, meaning your body harbors everything you put in it rather than helping you loose it and the minute you resort back to your normal eating habits you put it all back on.
A tip i highly recommend is following a calorie based plan. Find out how many calories you need to take in and follow a meal plan based upon it
Next DO a series of the following excercises: Light weightlifting, Toning and Cardio/Aerobic. Do those and youre better to go in the latter.

Change the diet so that you wont feel so bored. Not entirely, but eat different snacks.
Also, dont think much about food, and drink a big glass of water before and after every meal
Think about what you want to accomplish...
Good luck.

Make a fruit salad and keep it at your desk to pick at during the day. Fill up on loads of fresh fruit and veg with your meals and drink loads of water as half the time that you feel hungry its your body telling you your dehydrated

An Irishman was terribly overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least 5 pounds."
When the Irishman returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60 POUNDS!
"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said, "Did you follow my instructions?"
The Irishman nodded..."I'll tell you though, by jaesuz, I t'aut I were going to drop dead dat 3rd day."
"From hunger, you mean?"
"No, from de feckin skippin'"

yes as every 1 has said, water is very good to drink before meals as it bloats u out a bit ,so u won,t as much....try making a non calorie veg soup using carrots tin tomatoes veg stock, onions leeks...etc..no potatoes as they will count as calories...i think i got this from weight watchers ..its tasty and u can eat as much as u like when u like...u also need to find some sort of hobbie or somthing so that when u feel hungry when u know u had ur meals and shouldn,t really need food,u can do to take ur mind of eating.do u have a friend who also needs to lose weight, because its good to do it with someone, bit of friendly compition, and encouragement is good..good luck..

Allow yourself an occasional treat or you will probably not make it. Don't go over the top with your treat either.
You have a very good incentive there but you can only succeed if YOU really want to do it.
Good Luck
