Let’s examine what faith is. The definition of faith is hope for a circumstance or thing that is not proven to be true. There is no virtue in accepting something on faith, since it may very well be false, and it is clearly not virtuous to believe the false. Faith has also been proven through out history, time and again, that it is equivalent to massive hysteria; IE: Crusades, Burning Times, Inquisitions, Holy Wars, etc. On a grand scale faith, thus far, has only proven to be an intellectual weakness, and a significant barrier to scientific and moral progress.

Faith means you believe in something though you do not see it and cannot prove it. If you could do those things you wouldn't need faith.
The Church does say everyone is given the gift of faith from God but we have free will and can accept it or reject that is our personal decision. I believe because it makes me very happy.
I know people raised in a faith but it was like they never had it to begin with and they don't even seem troubled by it.
The world sees them as successful and reasonably happy and they say they are but there is something lacking.
We are made of 2 halves and one is spiritual. I guess some people just don't think they are or fill that lacking with other stuff. Personally I don't get it.

I believe in God without reservation (though I'm often angry, resentful and petulant toward God). However, I don't go to church, I don't generally read the bible (except to help understand references from art or literature), and I believe in Universal Salvation (the belief that there IS NO Hell, and that ALL people will go to heaven ... after God has washed us, of course), so my faith is not based on fear, nor on what anyone has told me. What I did was I questioned my faith. I thought about it, played devil's advocate (ironically), and so forth, then came to my own conclusions. I believe that faith is a gift from God because faith in God, and faith that all things ultimately serve God, and faith that all things work according to God's plan (in that even evil has a purpose, and even tragedy can lead to a greater good), and faith that God will not abandon any of us: that God's love and understanding allow God to forgive our sins, while the power of God's love will restore us to a state of purity when we finally stand before him ... or her! ... this faith has carried me through the most difficult time in my life, and has allowed me to accept things that on the surface are unacceptable at best and at worst unbearable. In the sense that faith gives me the strength to meet each day with joy, faith is a gift from God.

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. You simply know it is true. I think faith is a gift from God, after you first believe in who Jesus was and what He did. It took just a little faith, hoping that salvation was indeed true. After that initial "mustard seed" of faith, God reveals Himself to those who trusted and believed in Him.
Being saved is a gift, given freely by God to those who believe in Christ. It is nothing you can conjure up and believe in your imagination, and there is nothing that you can do to earn or deserve it. You truly believe and have faith, because you have the evidence within yourself. God is alive and real, waiting for those who will trust and love Him and will accept the great love and mercy He has show towards us. It's our choice to accept this gift or or decide against it, which sadly some people have deprived themselves sharing their lives with God, both for now and for eternity.

The Bible says that a measure of faith is given to every man. And I hav done studies on the word 'faith' so perhaps my meaning differs a bit from many others.
Faith does not automatically have to mean 'religious applications.'

Faith is a gift of God:
Rom 12:3 . . . as God has has dealt with each one a measure of faith.
Rom 10:17 faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (God imparts faith as you hear God's word).
1 Cor 12:9 the spiritual gift of faith.

Neither.
The key verse for me, in terms of instruction and personal experience, is Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not by works, lest any man should boast".
Let me begin by saying that I was an atheist/agnostic for 10 years after growing up in a catholic household. I know that Jesus brought me to this verse after 10 years of denying His very existence (doubt = the opposite of faith) and after reading it over and over b/c I wanted to understand and receive faith, my heart was finally ready to receive it and thus, through personal experience and by the affirmation of Scripture, I now have faith in Christ as Lord and Savior of my life.
Something key to note: "Faith" in the biblical sense ALWAYS points to the Person of Jesus Christ. Man can have many "beliefs" (some erroneous such as that the earth is flat, etc.), but true faith always speaks of Jesus Christ.
May God bless you with faith in His Son.

I have tested it and found God's word is true. Those who seek the truth and have value in it will receive the gift of faith and through this faith we receive revelationa nd revelation reveals the truth to you. Once you KNOW the truth You understand the order of God and you know God. No church or bible can reveal God to you it is from God himself but those who understand there need and have value in truth seek the truth through his word then through this seeking God provides you a gift of faith and through this faith you will receive revealtion it is not a teaching but a truth.

"For it really is via grace you've been saved,by way of religion—and this no longer from yourselves, it truly is the present of God— no longer by way of works, so as that no it really is hassle-free to boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared beforehand for us to do."= EPHESIANS 2:8-10. i think faith is basically as a lot a present from God as grace is. some human beings will take that faith and style and grow to be believers in Christ and performance eternal life and a own courting with Him, and some received't settle for that present that God needs us to have with Him. we received't muster up faith- it has to take delivery of to us first- and then it truly is going to grow to be a present if we settle for it.

Mind has limitations going beyond certain limits. However faith takes beyond those limits where one could get direct experiences of divinity. After that faith is not shaken by whirls of mind. Then one simply knows. Faith is a gift of divine to experience divine.
