Fedor Emelianenko does not do japanese jiu jitsu......... He does Sambo, which is a mating of many grappling arts including wrestling and brazilian jiu jitsu.

As for the original question, very few people use japanese jiu jitsu because of the way it is practiced. In brazilian jiu jitsu, a even when learning a move, people are sort of resisting and making it a little hard for you, all the way to full out sparring and rolling trying to get your new moves. While in japanese jiu jitsu, people repetatively go through the motions of techniques with no resistance almost like a dance thousands of times before they actually attempt to preform the move.
The end result is that japanese jiu jitsu fighters have incredibly clean moves that are freakishly precise, but at the same time, they didn't learn all the strange things people do to resist nearly as well as the brazilian jiu jitsu fighter who's been rolilng around with that move from day one with an uncooperative partner.
That's just one differnece, there are many, but that is the one i percieve to have the biggest limiting factor on the expertise of the japanese jiu jitsu fighter.

Japenese Ju jitsu NO!!

Brazilian Jujitsu most definitly.

Royce Gracie! The original winner of the 1st UFC.
BJ Penn BJJ Black belt (UFC)
Wanderlai Silva BJJ practitioner (Pride)
Michael Bisping TUF3 winner BJJ practitioner under the Sakuta Brothers.
Many Gracies have fought in Pride Renzo, Rickson, Royce, Royler, Ceaser to name a few.

You will find that as Japenese Ju Jitsu is a traditional martial art, with traditional techniques that were used 100's of years ago they are very antiquated and not entilerly useful for Pride or UFC.

BJJ was developed by the Gracies and they have developed a ground fighting system that really works. But they do know that they need stand up aswell.

Take a look at the Brazilian Chute Boxe team! BJJ and Muay Thai. Their sucessful fighters include Anderson Silva, Wanderlai The Axe Murder Silva and Ninja and Shogun Rua.

Fedor Elimenko is well versed in the Russian Martial Art of Combat Sombo.

Not sure, as some of the Japanese guys have a wide variety backing them. Guys like Genki Sudo come to mind, or Carlos Newton, or even I had to say it, but Shonie Carter. There are guys who have black belts in two or three traditional Martial Arts, and Jiu-Jitsu could be just part of it, (as far as classic Japanese JJ) I know a ton of them have Judo backgrounds, and of course BJJ.

But as far as Japanese Ju Jitsu, there is no telling since many MMA fighters have a wide variety of traditional martial art background before they start training MMA.

I know that doesn't help too much, but it is what I got.

Same heritage, but different styles. Japanese Ju Jitsu it the art of Self Defence used by the Samarai of ancient Japan. Unlike BJJ, JJJ is NOT a sport & therefore does not have rules. Groin strikes, throat strikes & eye gouges are all valid in JJJ. I would say that BJJ certainly has better groundwork techniques than JJJ, but JJJ also teaches (Judo) throws & defence against knife attacks, guns, batons, chains & bottles. Again, purely self defence & certainly more brutal. Don't fight JJJer on HIS rules!
