Sorry, but that kind of attitude would make you unsuitable for service in KATUSA.

Generally, only the best soldiers are selected for overseas assignments. Moreover, U.S. soldiers are nowhere near as uneducated as you think. There are high physical and mental standards that potential recruits have to meet.

My friend you are way off on that assumption. The truth of the matter is, most US soldiers are well educated and they love their country very much. Most US Soldiers believe that America should make it's citizens serve their country, but this can not be because of our constitution. I was in Korea for a year and a half, and met many KATUSA's I had a wonderful time in your country and became good friends the KATUSA's I worked with.

No, you are wrong. Ours is a volunteer army and most soldiers are here because we want to be. I did 2 years in Korea and worked with KATUSAs frequently. While most were outstanding, some were radicals who seemed to hate Korea for making them join, and hated America for our presence. We even had one who was caught speaking out at an anti-American rally by the main post in Yongsan. Needless to say, he ended up in the ROK army very quickly.

You are going to have dissenters in any military organization. I personally feel that the U.S. should have mandatory service like Korea does. That makes me unpopular. However, I love this country (I liked Korea, too, that's why I did 2 years there) and I feel every able bodied person should have to defend it so they can gain an appreciation of what freedom is all about.

You are misinformed it seems.Ours is a all volunteer Army, made up of all colors and races. They become one oiled machine working as one to protect and defend.Today's Army is a lot more educated than in the past. They also acquire many skills that translate to civilian life.No one disrespects our American military. They are honored and praised by the majority of American people. My husband spent 20 years in the US Army as an officer. His experience made him the person he is today.
I have great respect for our nations military. I also feel that a 2 year stint in the military for everyone, would not only be beneficial to this nation, but a very valuable lesson for all Americans.
Good luck to you in your decision. My husband spent time in Korea and loved the people and enjoyed his time there.

By the way my name is because I admire Shintaro Katsu the Asian actor and has nothing to do with the question.

Thats not ture my friend! Not everyone in the army is in for the money. Besides the army does not pay very well! They can make more money at some civilian job!

There are always some bad apples but most peeps are good, educated and there to fight for freedom! Wouldnt you want to help your country out by serving in the Army?

These Americans are there to protect your country from the North, why do you see joining your army a waste of time?

Work hard in school study like it will save your life ... because it will
smart educated people get the good jobs in the military and in the world.
this is what you need to do and lots of democratic countries do this
I wish we did it in the US.
Serve your country with pride in your heart that you are building a better future for your country and your future children.
Us soldiers are the best educated in the world. they won't even touch you unless you can graduate from high school then the real education begins...my son is a soldier . He is going to college for free because he worked hard in high school. He will be an officer in 4 years.

It depends what you mean by educated. I consider about 1/4 of the people that graduate high school in america as uneducated.
I'm american before anyone says anything, but i think we need higher standards. I'd say the same thing about people that graduate college in a few of the majors.

I don't know much about this program, but it doesn't' sound like they randomly pick and choose the people to work with KATUSA.

They're going to chose people that makes america look good.

Yes there are some dumb people in army, and some really smart people too. Our high school recruiter had a masters in bio engineering. Also to go against some sterotypes. When the anthrax scare broke out in america, he told us the military doesn't think its al qaeda....most people would think the military would say otherwise.

I'd think why most people would say american soldiers are uneducated was due to the rape/murder in iraq. They determined the soldiers invovled were borderline retarded.

Nope, you're wrong. American soldiers are better educated, and come from a higher social standing than the average American. See the Heritage Foundation study for the exact figures.

Don't believe everything you hear on TV. Soldiers love their country. But also, Israel has a mandatory service policy too. Hope this helps.

I think most American soldiers are in it for the love of their country. There are maybe a few that think it is easy money, but find out real quick that is not true.

No. Although being a soldier is a JOKE now in the USA, it is never frowned upon. And actually, soldiers come back and make even more money, because of the experience and education they get. Soldiers arent the lowest people here.. usually its the police or
