I am concerned that people who believe in the literal truth of every word of the bible cannot deal with the world as it really is.

Thanks punkvixen - yes, I've worked with extreme god-botherers too, and they are creepy. I am quite open about my atheism and I am not afraid to say "that's rubbish", so they couldn;t work for me unless they had a GREAT sense of humour!

Obviously I would employ the best person for the job and would hope they wouldn't bring their religion to work.
However, personally, if the person is willing to believe that the bible is 100% true then they are capable of believing anything and poses a serious risk!

Really can you trust a person who follows any "faith".

Faith is a belief, trust, or confidence, not based on logic, reason, or empirical data, but based fundamentally on volition often associated with a transpersonal relationship with God, a higher power, a person, elements of nature, and/or a perception of the human race as a whole. Faith can be placed in a person, inanimate object, state of affairs, proposition or body of propositions such as a religious creed.

No, I would not hire someone who follows anything blindly. It's easier to conform and a hell of a lot harder to theorize and reach for knowledge. Question before conformity. This is not just a general statment it is a fact.

Depends on the job. If I was a government who needed to populate a department with assasins and merciless killers I would only take people who literally believed the bible because they have already proved that they will not ask questions and will follow orders regardless of how despicable those orders are. They will be able to kill men, women and children all that is required is to make them think that their orders are somehow endorsed by the "good" book.

It would depend on the job. If they were required to provide some sort of human services. They might be reluctant to perform if it went against Their belief. For example a druggist might not want to sell certain drugs. You would have to first ask them. You never know some have different interpretations of the bible than others. If you are an Atheist and just want to employ Atheist. I hope you don't need many employees. BB

I'd trust them with some things, but nothing too important. As for whether I'd hire one, only if it were in the sort of job where they are never required to think about anything. If it was just working on an assembly line or something then I wouldn't have a problem.

Trust your own intuition! If you fail that, then way out the pros's & con's of this matter out, the good from the bad blah, blah.

Remember that you have to work with this person, nobody else....
you & only you realy know the answer. It does not matter what the individual believe's in, as "BELIEF"do not effect their work!

If it was me (( I do hire & fire)) if I was at this stage already then I would decline from hiring this person, as you already have doubts
in your mind. That is a clear sign for me.

The ability to give unquestioning belief in anything can be useful, especially in large organisations. Would imply a moral code is aspired to, so positions of trust would be possibly appropriate. Not suitable for situations where intelligence or education is critical. President Bush: says it all really.

I do not ask potential hires about their religious beliefs. They are free to believe what they like. I will not discriminate along those lines and don't care if they are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Satanist, etc. That is their own business. If I hire them and they start proselytizing I will take them aside and tell them to stop, reminding them that other employees have as much right to their beliefs as they do. If they continue to push their beliefs on other employees then I would begin disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Sure I'd hire one, I don't want to do the work!!!!! Good God Almighty I don't give a damn if they believe in bundles of sticks covered in mud as long as the laundry gets done and the lawns look nice, come to think about it it would be nice if there were someone here to make the tea as well! I'm not joking either Mister!

I would perhaps, to do some menial tasks . Such people must be treated as one would a child with an imaginary friend, with compassion and not to much patronising. They are sad, unable to develop, worse influenced by people who wont let them grow.
