A was doing some screening on someone I was about to meet online. I did a reverse phone number search and came up with a name and address. When I looked up the address at zillow it was an empty lot. But it looks like the area is underdevelopment. How did this happen? Is it a computer error or could have this guy really
made up a bogus ID with fake address? Wouldn't the phone company have caught this?

the phone company doesn't research your address to see if your lying or not, so my advice would be to stay away from this person before you become a statistic!

Stay away from this clown, obviously he has something to hide. If you do meet with him, take someone with you and tell alot of people where you are going and who you are meeting. I'd stay away if I was you. I also commend you for doing a search. There are way too many trusting people out there. If you have seen the things I've seen........ Are you really willing to bet your life on whether the phone company has messed up or not? I would think they are a big enough organzation with millions of phone numbers, do you think they check each and every one of them? Stay Away!

I think you should stay away from this guy. Probably married, or maybe even worse.............

As to how is that done.. if the call was made from a cell phone, you can put any address you want as long as the bill is paid. Most prepaid cellphones are paid over the net with a credit card or phone card. Any address is possible..........

Doesnt sound safe. It appears you are in for trouble. Make friends live not on net. Even if you do meeting is not advisable. Dont bother about phone co. They have too many things to handle and they dont have the time to do investigation of the IDs.

Its never safe to meet someone online. I would'nt do it. You can give the address and number to the police and let them investigate it. But if your intent on going through with it, meet them in a crowded area, and bring a friend (preferably a guy)
