There is only one kind, but with all software, there are multiple versions. The current version is 2007. Prior to that, it was 2003. It can be purchased by itself, but is usually bundled with the Microsoft Office package.

A free Office alternative is OpenOffice, which is compatible in many ways with Microsoft Office applications.

In Broad Terms there is the Business version. Home version, and the so called "Pro" Version. This will change with Office 2007. XML is making Excel just huge in variety and in price.
