Eat less carbs. and more fruits and veges. Try drinking a big glass of water first thing in the morning with fresh lemon squeezed into it. Green Tea is fantastic for raising your metabolism. And, avoid eating, especially fatty and heavy foods, a few hours before bed because you do not metabolize as quickly in your sleep because of inactivity so most of the food you eat before bed just turns into fat.

For a meal, try aiming a plate consisting of one half non-starchy vegetables, one quarter carbs and one quarter meat (or non-meat protein). Anyone who says not to eat carbs is right only as far as losing weight. Your body will waste away without carbs.
Do not neglect exercise. It is an integral part of any reputable diet.
