The 1,000 Guineas (for fillies) and 2,000 Guineas (for colts & fillies) are staged at Newmarket, usually on the first weekend in May. This year it will be 2,000 Guineas on 5th May and 1,000 Guineas on 6th May. Both races are run over a mile.
The Oaks (for fillies) and Derby (for colts and fillies) are staged at Epsom Downs. The Derby is held on the first Saturday in June (it used to be the first Wednesday in June until a few years ago). This year The Oaks will be run on Friday 1st June and The Derby on Saturday 2nd June. Both races are run over a mile and a half (12 furlongs)
The St Leger (for colts and fillies) is held at Doncaster in mid-September. This year the race will be run on 15th September. the race is run over a mile and three quarters (14 furlongs).
