What about a membership to her nearest gym .. If she`s like my 16yr old she`ll be paranoid about her figure and her diet .. My daughter was just 16 in December and i gave her cash to spend on herself and that way she could buy whatever she fancied as i found it really hard to buy for her as she too has all the mod cons ... laptop , mobile phone , digi camera etc.... Wish i was a kid again !

Something to make her feel grown up, and to show you see her growing up.
16 is a mile stone like 18 and 21.
Something for you to think about... She'll be legal. Does she have a boyfriend, are they close? Paying for somewhere specail for them to go where you acknowledge she aint a little girl anymore (no they dont have to do it) but you saying your a young woman now. Maybe pay for a weekend trip for both somewhere.
Lovers guide video inc
(still a shed load to learn and over the next two years will need you more then you think).
Also party (you really want somone older, but not older then her.
Think party animals but who know where to draw the line and see everyone home safe who can handle gate crashers or anyone whos drunk too much, or problems with drugs etc.
Ie maybe parents nearby (if needed... but out of the way so they have some freedom and can be naughty but things not go out of control and not fun anymore) but somone not a chaparone seeing the party stays fun.
Concert tickets.
As mentioned a girlie spa trip.
Skydive or other scarey wild adventure thing like wing walking, acrobatic flight, scuba dive with shark etc (can do that in north england at blueplanet aquarium.
Make sure videoed.
If her mates get male strippers laugh and ok it... well you are growing up now
etc

A car would be nice. However, that may be a bit much. Spa, massage's, pedicure, manicure are nice too but could be done together on some other day.
I'd give her a nice ring or bracelet from you to her, one tha'ts not overly expensive but a nice one that she'll remember everytime she wears it. It may be something she'll hand down to her children decades from now when you are long gone.

you could give her a party with all her mates, then make up a memory box for her containing her baby bands from hospital, photos, school reports, pictures she's drawn etc a relatively inexpensive gift so you can really splash out on a good party.

How about one of those makeover and photo shoot sessions they are always advertising in the Sunday Supplements?
Not only will she be able to look great for the day but she'll have the photographs to keep forever to remind her of the experience
try this one for starters but I'm sure there are others more local and probably cheaper.

An event like a rock concert might do the trick.
If she looks anything like mom, she'll be a real heartbreaker.
