Here is a website with lots of photos to base your painting off of.

Just follow the simple steps to get a free account. the images are large and pretty high quality. Lots of Buddhas, closeups and bodyshots, to choose from. For example... http://www.sxc.hu/photo/659179

perhaps we would recognise buddha from the posture, not the face, so you could have any face. do your own one, then it would be "self portrait as the buddha" or do your brother or mother or a teacher (not necessarily one you like).
also, i think buddha sat under a tree once, so depicting the environment buddha is in might help. just do the one tree maybe. you could call it "buddha sitting behind a tree", if you don't figure out the best original face.

i remember when i was very little, if i asked my mother or father what to draw ("what shall i draw? what shall i draw?!!!") they would often say to draw a pig.
i don't know why they said that.

also, buddha's face is a good face. a heavenly countenance. so just keep going till its heavenly. like, fifteen minutes!

Hey - the best thing to do would be to go to a buddhist temple and do your own research. You are usually allowed to take photos but check first. Or - even better you could sketch what you see - these places are full of exciting and beautiful things and smells and colours etc. etc. It may really inspire you!!

Do you have any Asian food places near you--markets or even restaurants have Buddhas to look at and draw from. sometimes. Have you just typed in "Budah" on google?
