Molasses is molasses, Treacle is also molasses, so ignore those folks . Dark Brown sugar has a significant amount of molasses remaining in it as does dark Rum. Sorghum molasses is also a good substitute, but I assume that you don't have this from the question, so if it were me, I would go with Dark brown sugar and a dash of Rum

if the recipe call for sugar, use dk brown, (if you ve got it.)It has molasses in it.
The molasses is used to darken and sweeten the bread you can sub honey or other sweeteners. It will affect the color/character of the bread, but it will still be good (and you may like it even better)

Molasses Substitute
For 1 cup, use
1 cup honey;
or
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar;
or
1 cup dark corn syrup;
or
1 cup pure maple syrup.

if you have corn syrup only,then that is what you should use,it will give you the necessary sweetness but taste & colour will not be the same as when you use molasses,go ahead it will not make all that much of a difference.What matters is you have saved yourself a trip to the store.
