Does shingles always cause severe pain? I have a rash, and it burns and tingles but the pain is bearable. I mean clothing hurts etc. My husband doesn't think it's shingles because I'm not writhing in pain like our son did when he had it a few years ago.
I don't remember having any of the other symptoms, just a painful, tingling and then the rash about a week later. It seems to me some cases could be milder than others. I've been under a lot emotional and mental stress which is what I think caused the outbreak.

Shingles does not always cause severe pain.

My Mum got shingles a few years back and her symptoms were very similar to what you are describing, though she was also quite itchy in the area that was affected.

Her description to me was that when it was itchy and she scratched, it felt like someone cutting her with a razor blade then pouring acid on it.

The best way to be sure if it is or isn't is to make a trip to your family doctor or even your local pharmacist would be able to help you.

Shingles can be brought on my a lot of stress and can take quite a while to clear up.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.

Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.

My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

I had shingles when I was 11 or 12... in my armpits of all places! I remember some burning, but not excruciating pain. The doctor gave me some stuff to wash the areas with and some cream or ointment. I think things affect people differently, and things aren't always the worst case scenario for everyone.

I think you should go should see a doctor. It might not be so painful as your sons, but if you let it go it probably will get worse before it gets better. Mental and emotional stress is one of the main cause of an outbreak of shingles. my father-in-law has it, he did not go see a doctor until it became unbearable. He has had it now for several years and cannot get rid of it. It is very serious, you should see a doctor ASAP or you will be withering in pain!

My PCP just told me about Shingles (she thought that was the reason for a swollen lymph node I have). She did say that it can be "controlled" with medication. The medication can help with the symptoms and shorten the duration. I agree...see a doctor, SOON.
