Give up on the M.D.'s. They know nothing. Find a good chiropractor and see him regularly.

It sounds like the real problem is you're not getting good pain management through pain medications. Your doctor should prescribe a narcotic type medication called Oxycontin. This is good to take when you are in so much pain you need instant release. You don't have to worry about addiction unless you are the type to abuse the drug or just take it for the "high" feeling. If you use it for what it was intended (pain relief) you'll have a higher quality of Life because you'll be able to do and enjoy more activities. Other than that, massages work great. Avoid Chiropractic care.

Hon, get yourself to Walmart and buy a small jar of Blue Emu Oil. I had a pinched nerve and did some research online. That stuff helped. It's how I survived until I got to my Dr. A small jar doesn't cost too much, and the natrual ingrediants in it seem to help.
I also did a hot patch on the area that eased the pain. I got one of those kinds that stick to the area.
My Dr. put me on Amitriplyine which is an older antidepressant that's been used for years to ease a pinched nerve. And let me tell ya, I wouldn't have gotten through without the stuff.
She then put me on Physical Therapy that same day. The therapist used the TENS unit and a hot pack. She also gave me exercises to help strengthen the area and taught me better ways to get up and off a bed or other high places. It turns out my spine was out of alignment merely a small amount, but it was enough to pinch the Siatic nerve.
After a month of therapy, I was able to be released and got off the medication. I also was taught how to ease my back into alignment with a simple exercise.

Try some anti-infammatories for now. It will bring the inflammation down in the disc that is causing the pain with the nerve. It usually takes a long time to heal, beleive me, Im right in the middle of it now. Ive had phsio, chiropractor, and am waiting for my second cortizone shot. Im currently taking Oxycontin for the pain. Better to get it fixed now before it gets any worse. Sometimes, if its severe enough, they will consider surgery.
Good luck

You should check this Sciatica Natural Treatment
http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!
