Many martial arts have a strong Buddhist background, which is a pretty nonviolent religion. Take a look at the Noble eightfold path. Says right in there not to harm others. So there is a pretty strong juxtoposition there. but the general idea is that the more you know about hurting others the more dicpline you have and the more you realize how much others can hurt you. Thats a pretty light dusting, but you can read up on it and digest it some if you want. That said, it doesn't look like tiger schulmann's teaches a martial art, looks like it is just kickboxing and MMA(which kind of seems vague to me)

if someone already has a bad attitude or a violent nature already it is not a good thing for them to learn Martial Arts because it is more likely to make them worse, or even more dangerous than they were before.
If anything it should make you less prone to violence, the better the Martial artist, the more of a peace keeper they should be.
I also don't like to use what I know, and I will naturally defend myself with the same amount of force that an opponent shows toward me if it becomes necessary.
but as much as I can, I will avoid injuring them unless there is no other way to finish the fight without further violence.

The true spirit of the martial arts teaches many non-violent ideals, such as respect, generosity, compassion, tolerance, patience, etc. If taught properly, any art will train a person to live by these disciplines both in and out of the kwoon (or dojo, as you prefer).
There will always be those who will misuse their training in various ways, from bullying on the schoolyard all the way to assault and murder. When my school was contacted by a writer for a martial arts mag, we were all stunned to hear that all five of the instructors previously contacted, all in the West coast area, had all said that if a student paid their dues, then what they did outside the studio was none of the school's business. Any instructor who is aware of a student abusing the skill they've been taught should immediately bar that student from the school. And instructors with short tempers and little to no self-control (they are out there) are to be avoided like the plague.

no , that is a myth that should have died in the 70's
violent people have violent tendencies with or without joining any martial arts.
I have only ever had to remove 3 people from my club in the 17 years I have been teaching for using their martial arts for picking fights. They most likely would have had this kind of behaviour without martial arts.

Martial arts make people violent the same way learning to read makes people smart. I know plenty of folks with good educations that couldn't think their way out of a paper bag. In fact if anything the exact opposite is true, martial arts make you more controlled. I've never known a violent martial artist in my life time but I've been around plenty of people who got into fights.

I think this is a deceptive statement. certainly Martial arts increase a person's ability to be violent but I do not think it increase the frequency. The training inside the dojo does not count (if it does, then the flat answer is "yes").
People who stick with the arts learn the value of human life. They tend not to be more violent.
Of course there are always the fools who travel from school to school and learn no respect, just techniques.

People are going to be violent or not as is their individual nature. More often than not, people that have trained in the martial arts are less likely to behave violently without provocation, and even then sometimes...

Martial arts(serious ones, not karate) does giveyou the potential to be a jackass. But hopefully you won't.
Before I trained for MMA I used to be kinduv a dick and roughouse with people a lot and use force to get my way in some situations. But learning Boxing, Thai boxing, and Jiu Jitsu has made me calm down because i'm afraid of getting sued for doing serious damage to people. It used to be you could kid around or scrap with someone and neither of you would be terribly hurt, but now even a thai kick to the thigh can drop a person and leave a giant purple bruise that they can take a picture of and drag you into court with. So in that way, i've really mellowed out with the help of becoming more dangerous.

Martial Arts do not make a person violent. In fact, most Martial Arts make people LESS violent because they preach discipline over anything else.

I think it depends on the motive of the person.
Martial Arts are supposed to be an Art of Peace.
It is for Self-Improvement, Self-Preservation and the Preservation of ones you love or care about. It is supposed to cultiavate a person. To be in touch with that darker side of yourself and be able to flow with it. Controlling both sides is the essence of Martial Arts. Ultimately it is supposed to get rid of violence instead of fertilizing it.
