If you're not a member of the church where you're getting married, there is normally a fee for its use. In addition, whether you're a member or not, you will probably have to pay the custodian, the organist and an honorarium to the minister who performs the ceremony. Many churches also require that you attend at least one pre-marriage counseling session with the minister who performs the ceremony.

I have heard that some churches take a donation. The one where I am having my wedding costs $150 to hold the ceremony. I'm not sure what it would be for a funeral. Prices may also differ if you are a member at the church.

They don't call it paying ... it's donating and to everyone who assists in the use.

I have to disagree with you can get married in any church as well. I am Catholic and I wanted to get married in a church other than the one in my town ... I wanted the one in the town I was going to live in. You needed to get a release from your church and a notice was given 3 times (forgot the term for this) and I had to sit with the priest to explain why I was making the choice before anything would get done. Now of course not all of them could be like this but I've got other stories regarding people and churches that make it more like a business deal than a place of God, faith and worship. So check before you assume. And yes they usually do want to see you attending masses prior to your event ...

It depends on the church. If it's one that you go to maybe not. If it's a different church they have a fee depending what you want it for. i rented a church for my wedding in October 2005 and paid $400 for 3 hours

I had to pay $300. It was a required fee, not an optional donation.

Not if you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

We don't even have paid ministers.

Jesus said we receive free, so we are to give free.
