Have you changed or added fluid recently? Many times a Chrysler trans will slip due to incorrect fluid, even if you took it to a shop and had it done. The Chrysler transmissions require ATF +3 (or ATF +4) and any other fluid will cause them to act funny and slip even though the dipstick says you can use Dexron.

Otherwise, there's a problem inside the transmission or with the switches, sensors, etc. Take it to your dealer or trusted independent mechanic and have it looked at (I suggest against trans specialty shops since they have a reputation of selling complete trans assemblies or rebuilds when they aren't really needed).

I would say most likely your transmission is slipping, and needs a rebuild.

Its going to be very hard to find aftermarket stuff for this car as it was never super popular, maybe try like www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com

I had an 86 and it did the same thing. Transmission is the culprit. I had to have the torque converter replaced.
