Vista will replace XP, unless you decide to install it on a different partition, but since most people who have vista now are testers, the software is not the final version, and is bound to have problems.

There's little reason to buy it right now, as adaption to Vista will be quite slow, especially with it's heavy system requirements.

Besides, if people are "downloading" it, then they are obviously breaking the law, and that alone is a good reason why I wouldn't reccomend finding it online unless you know exactly what you're doing with it.

as windows vista is not on the domestic market legally yet why ask now?
you only need to upgrade VISTA if you want a more graphic based interface with things like the yahoo widgets built in.
VISTA is the replacement for XP. so in essence yes it will mess up XP as XP will no longer exist on your computer if you install VISTA over it.
VISTA is as i said the latest release of the windows operating system. It is said to have better security built in to it as well as other useful features. the voice record feature currently on XP with a 60second limit was in the VISTA BETA unlimited, howver i can not vouch for the current status.

as VISTA comes in several different varieties you will need to compare which version is right for you and you will need to check that your computer is VISTA ready.

see www.windowsvista.com for details.

Vista has a lot to work up to... I have it myself dual-booting on my computer and i like Vista's look however being it only beta there were some issues with some versions i picked up on but the Release To Manufacture is a lot better.

Personally im happy with XP and if i wanted to get Vista id be getting the Ultimate version but at over $700 AUD it's a rip off.

Vista is the next generation of XP, it is geared to stop hacking of your computer, with built in firewalls and port blockers, and 100% hack proof, even bought anti-virus program cannot access it!
In reality, it has been hacked, long before the official release date.
So the Microsoft flagship is a pile of rubbish!
Wait at least a year, before getting it!

no, you don't have to. it is just the newest edition of windows. wait some time before you decide to install them, as there are quite a few incompatibilities with a lot of programs and lack of drivers for quite a few devices. keep in mind that in order to use them in "all their glory", you will need a stronger system. check the hardware specifications at the microsoft site
