Me and my fiends are creating a nero/amptguard game called LoM. It's highest form of currency is Lumina bars. It's a combination of gold and platnum with a third element that makes the bars glow. We are trying to come up with a safe representation to use in game play.
I cannot figure out how to make these 1" by 3.5" (.25") metal bars realisticaly glow as bright as a chem light. Does anyone have any suggestions or are we going to have to deal with normal chunks of steel Ed finds scraped at work?
PS- Lower technology requested, we're piss poor.

why not use shiny steelpipes instead, with some cuts on their sides, with LED and a battery inside ?
or plastic-tubes, or something ?
i'm afraid there's no such harmless substance which would make metal glow if its not toxic, or radioactive...
just try to rely on things you may get at radio-shack ?
