Itchiness could be caused from a number of things. Depending on where you live it could be untreated water, could be you don't wash your hair often enough, could be you live in hot climate, or if you live a lot indoors it could be from using excessive electric or gas heat in the winter in your home, could be from using your hair dryer too often, or could be the type of hair you have as in some areas of the world one must condition their scalp (there are products on the market, you can find those at your pharmacy). If your scalp is too oily then rubbing alcohol will stop the itch temporarily. Maybe the shampoo you use is too strong (or too weak) or is just not for your scalp type. If you're not sure what to buy to solve the problem ask your pharmacist. Scabs sounds to me like there's something living there so try the rubbing alcohol first as that does kill germs.

Lice. Also--if you have started to use a new hair product recently you could be a little allergic to it, causing a reaction of itchiness on your scalp. It's pretty rare, but sometimes people don't form reactions to certain products until later in use--so if you have been using a product for a while but now it starts causing you itchy scalp, it could just be showing up late. I'd say experiment with cutting out certain hair products from your daily routine and see if the itchiness stops. Hope this helps! :)

I'm not sure what the exact cause could be, but I may know what the solution could be. I used to get eczema on my scalp and use Coal Tar shampoo (available from most pharmacies). I smells horrid, but it really helps stop the itching. Give it a go, it might just help you.

I had that for about a month recently causing so much dandruff that someone commented about it. I cut a haircut as well. I bought a smelly shampoo but I never used it. It cleared appreciably after about six to eight weeks and I put it down to a virus infection. Red spots and I scratched them and then they scabbed over. I thought they were going to be permanent, but I cannot feel them now..

if you have dandruff...then you need to use a good medicated anti dandruff shampoo which will take care of the itchiness, else try massaging your scalp with pure almond oil and leave it overnight before you wash it off...have you ruled out lice?

If you have very thick hair, make sure you rinse all of your shampoo and conditioner out. A build up of hair products not rinsed out thoroughly can cause itchiness. Also check for headlice. Eczma could also be a factor.

Could be excezma or something along those lines... I'd speak to somebody at your pharmacist, they can advise how to stop it and have a look at it.
