You're going to need an appointment before you can go in at most places. Once you have scheduled your appointment [by either phone or online] you must get all of your forms together. Once you have both of these things you can go in for your interview. Some places still have not set up their appointment system yet and people must show up between certain hours of the day for the appointment. Find the website of the embassy you will be using and all the information will be there. For example, where I used to work, students didn't need an appointment but everyone else did. Hope it helps!

I believe you haveto go in person VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING to the embassy/consulate and stand in line to get an appointment. Don't be surprised if you get an appointment for a month from now. That's just the way it is.

Most embassies and consulates have telephone services that will make the appointment for you. Locate your embassy here, then look for the "nonimmigrant visas" page.
