Army - Rangers
Navy - SEALs
Airforce - technically - not really commandos, but ParaJumpers are pretty "bad ***"
Marines - Force Recon
There is also Delta - which contains some or all of the above. Run by the Army.
Internationally
Brits - SAS
Israel - Mosad
Best Army Unit - ??? who knows - whatever you are interested in.

most elite special forces don't advertise - at least not very much. I had some adventures with the South African Army special ops 30+ years ago and was VERY impressed.
Also, the Foreign Legion does a lot of dirty work for France and European Union with very little publicity....

Canada just has JTF 2 no JTF 1
For well known I would have to say a toss up between Green Berets, Seals, and SAS
Most elite I would say they all feel that they are each the most elite units

Well it's not very known, but i'll let you in on the secret. When the pres first became the pres. he formed a group of elite men and women called
R E M ( redneck emergency militia) These bad *** boys and girls can skin and fry a squirrel in 5 seconds flat. Just think what they can do on the war front.

It would have to be the SBS. Most top secret missions are conducted by them while more public missions are given to the SAS. The best go to the SBS and the rest to the SAS.
By the way, US Rangers? Are they a football team.
Navy Seals - what are they, some sort of military wildlife organisation?
Green Berets? Yeah, they were effective in Vietnam!!!!!

Sorry, but there is no 'best' AND 'most well known'.
For 'best & most elite', I'd say the Special Forces of the Israeli Army. I know a number of Recon Marines & SEALs that have tipped their hat to them and said, "They're about as good as us." |That's code for, "Damn, those guys are tough."

I'd say Delta Force is, simply because up until the late 70's, they weren't even confirmed as being in existence, and the U.S. Army still refuses to comment on any missions they go on.
