Jesus was teaching that the only way to heaven was to obey the New Testament Gospel Plan of salvation that Christ himself had died for to bring it into affect.
When Christ died on the cross the O.T. was nailed to the cross, and Christ Church was established on the day of Pentecost in ACTS 2

Christ said I will build MY Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it>

2. Prayer is part of our worship. Thus, we should pray only to God, Jehovah. When Jesus was on earth, he always prayed to his Father, not to anyone else. We should do the same. (Matthew 4:10; 6:9) However, all our prayers should be said in the name of Jesus. This shows that we respect Jesus' position and that we have faith in his ransom sacrifice.—John 14:6; 1 John 2:1, 2.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, keep My commandments.

Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works." (Jesus quoted by John 14:10)

"Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. The Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing; and he will show him greater works than these, so that you will be astonished." (Jesus quoted by John 5:19-20)

It means through learning His Teachings recorded in the Bible and practicing them under His divine guidance. In another place He said that lip service to the Lord is of no use, but the real worship is to do the Will of God, His Father in Heaven.

Through HIm dying on the cross, and taking on the burden of your sins..you can go to the Father...because since Jesus took on your sins you are pure and blameless in front of the Father....but ONLY through Jesus.

When man fell in the garden of eden, the way to the tree of Life was blocked and man chased away from the garden. Man now had no privildge of that access to God that was there in the garden. Jesus however, became the perfect sacrifice that was needed to reconcile man back to God. He was God's provided way back to the communion Adam had enjoyed when he was still in the garden of Eden.
Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Eph 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

That you must accept Jesus as your Savior and believe that He died on the cross for your sins, in order to enter the Kingdom of God (the Father).

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all(1 Timothy 2:5-6)

Jesus is the only acceptable means by which we can approach God. No priest, rabbi, pastor, elder, angel or ancestor, not even Mary or any other saint can approach God on your behalf.

We must approach God in Jesus' name.

Can't face God as a sinner.

God does not grade on the curve. All who enter God's kingdom must be absolutely holy, since no sin is allowed in God's presence. In addition, people must be willing to allow God to prevent them from sinning ever again, since there is no sin in heaven. This means that people must be willing to submit fully to God's will in order to get into heaven. Of course, all humans fall short of God's moral requirements. Therefore, God has made a provision to erase all sins that we have committed in this life and to perfect us so that we cannot sin in the next life. That provision for sin is through the sacrifice of God's son, Jesus Christ. Jesus took the punishment that we deserve and gives us the reward that we do not deserve - eternal life. In accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, all our sins are erased, and Jesus works to change us into His image (if we allow Him to do so).
