Commercially produced VHS tapes are not encrypted in the way many DVDs are so you should be able to transfer most if not all of your VHS titles on to DVD.

The easiest way, if you can afford it, is to buy a DVD/VHS recorder. There are many makes and models available. These machines will record television programs on to either DVD or VHS and, more importantly from your point of view, they also allow you to dub from one to the other.

More up to date machines also allow you to set the DVD to record from between 1 and 10 hours. So when dubbing set the DVD record time to the minimum needed to record the VHS film (or whatever).

Yes - you need a vhs machine and dvd recorder - you can connect the vhs to you computer and transfer the vhs film on to your hard drive and from there to a dvd disc - or you can go via a normal tv set but you will need to fit a decoder between the vhs and dvd recorder -Goggle Copycat. Although it is possible to do this it is also illegal as you will infringe copyright held in the original film.
