I was invited last June at my boss' house and after dinner he gave us this liqueur that he got from Germany, Amarula. It looks like Baileys but has a fruity taste... something that has to do with the blue elephant and amarula fruit tast...

Does anyone know any online shop where I can get it from. I have tried all the liquer/wine/spirits shops here in Malta but it seems that no one heard of it.

1. Where does Amarula come from?

From the mystical Marula tree, Amarula Cream is born. The Marula tree is uncultivated by man and
grows on the wide-open plains of Africa.

The tree is mainly found in the warm frost-free regions of sub-equatorial Africa. It grows in sandy soil, thrives in drier climates and can withstand long periods of drought. Nonetheless, with minimal rainfall the Marula tree brings forth an abundant crop.

2. How is Amarula made?

Once the ripe marula fruit has been gathered, the kernels are removed in a destoner and the flesh crushed from the skin. The marula flesh is then fermented under conditions similar to winemaking.

After fermentation, the marula "wine" is distilled in copper pot-stills. The young liqueur is then matured
in small oak casks for about two years and thereafter enriched with pure marula extract – obtained through a special process that captures the unique flavours of the marula in a concentrated form.

The final step is blending the liqueur with the finest fresh cream until a smooth consistency is formed. The creaming process is of the highest standard. The result is a rich, soft and stable product; namely, Amarula Cream.

3. Is Amarula Gluten-free?

Yes, Amarula is gluten-free.

4. What is Amarula’s shelf life?

Amarula’s shelf life is 24 months. However, exposure to excessively hot storage conditions can adversely affect the shelf life. Once the bottle is opened, the shelf life is 6 months.

5. How should Amarula be stored?

Cool to room temperature storage conditions are essential to keep the product at its best.
Amarula does not have to be kept in the fridge, but does taste exquisitely refreshing if you do so!

6. Can Amarula be mixed with any other drinks?

Amarula is an exceptionally versatile liqueur. It can be enjoyed neat, on ice, or as cocktail. Citrus-based mixers should however be avoided. Please refer to our delectable latest cocktails for your pure enjoyment.

7. Where can I buy Amarula?
A list of all Distell Head-Offices around the world is given in our world map section. The offices will be in a position to address any queries that might arise. Choose a Head-Office that is closest to your country; i.e. if you are based in Spain, click on Distell Europe. Click here if you want to go to that page.

8. Can you please tell me where Amarula is available for purchase?

The best way to find out where to find Amarula in your country, is to check on the website under "About Amarula" and then look in "Amarula World Wide". Scroll on the map to your country, and then zoom down until you see the name of the agent that distributes there. Once you click on the name of the agent, their contact details will appear on the right-hand side of the screen.

I used to live in Malta! I would have thought that most well stocked supermarkets would sell it as it's actually a well known liqueur over here in the UK!

Good luck!

It is funny I hear like wise spin put on what Bush said by liberals. Both sides spin but since I rarely listen to the nastiest one on the conservative side I never heard what you said the talk radio host said. I do agree both sides are now trying to buy votes with new entitlements. I'm still looking for a President that can articulate a vision on creating wealth in the world & is at least as conservative as JFK & Martin Luther King. Too bad for the U.S. both parties today are more liberal than the 2 individuals I just sighted. Also most of our so called leaders lack the intellect to create wealth or fight their way out of a paper bag.
