I believe that you probably switched tracks on the way down, and began thinking about something else, and lost your place in your memory about what you were looking for. Unless you put a memory marker on the idea, your mind which is very fast to move to another subject, will lose the former notion. Try using memory markers. As you get older, people notice this more, because their minds are taken up wth more things. Too many memory markers won't work either, and so then people begin to make lists and notes and follow a To Do list for example.
This is very normal.

No I don't think so. This happens to everyone. It mostly happens when you're in a hurry.
like say you have to be out of the house by a certain time, so you are in your car when you realize you left your jacket in the house. So you race back to the front door, open it and go in and just stand there and think "What did I come back for?"
Sometimes you have to go out, then go back in to refresh your memory or sometimes it just comes to you.
However if this happens to you A LOT or Alzhiemers runs in your family and especially if you are over 35 you should see a Doctor to get checked out =D

I do that all the time and I don't have alzheimers. It could just be what I like to call 'absent-mindedness'

Could be.
You could go to your doctor and ask him but you will probably forget what he tells you.
