It's what WAS the millennium bug! It was a problem supposedly with computers that was going to cause all sorts of chaos when the year 2000 hit (the new millennium).
It had to do with dates: if your birthday was 1970, say, and it had been entered into the computer as '70 (instead of all 4 digits--1970--), the computer would supposedly think you were -30 years old---which, as we all know, would have been a physical impossibility!

It's called "the millennium bug" - there wasn't a program as such, it is just a term to describe the idea that all the worlds computers wouldn't accept the value 2000 for some unknown reason. It seems it was mostly hype in hindsight.

yes it didn't happen.. but do you ever stop to think that it didn't happen precisely because companies spent time and money fixing those issues prior to the year 2000?
incidentally its was largely a symptom of older mainfram computers, not PC's not Microsoft. although arguably they do have a problem on how to roll over dates on or about 2037 I think it is (its the same issue that Apple and everyone else has). Its do with the size of vlaue used to sotre the number of clicks that coccured since a specific event (I think most PC's use the number of seconds since the start of the Unix epoch Jan 1970 I think). MIcrosoft may do somehting a bit different so they may have alittle more life before that one kickc in.
