Dont worry, you may even feel tearful when he comes home, just think you are being kind really, he wont have the urge to stray he will be more loving to you and he wont get testicle cancer. you have done the right thing..give him a week or so and he will be back to normal

I am facing the same soon, as my 5.5 month old kitten "Mr.BinX" will be fixed within the next 3-4 weeks and I am dreading it too. Firstly the vet told me he can't eat from 6pm the night before (harsh) and then I have to take him there in the car which he hates, leave him with all those other animal crying around him then have him operated on. Poor thing, I feel awful but I do know it's for the best and I had always planned on doing it, but it is hard to leave them behind and not feed them when they look at you with those eyes, lol.

You did the right thing and you be much happier when you bring kitty home again later.

We just went through this with our male cat Elliott in November.

Yes, it's upsetting that you can't feed them and you have to leave them...but a male neuter is a simple easy operation...he'll be home soon and by tomorrow or the next day he'll be back to his old self.

We took Elliott at 1 PM, picked him up at 4PM...he slept none stop until about 10:30 PM...at that time we gave him a small amount of water and food and he then slept very happily all night long.
Next morning he was sitting in the kitchen with his "Sisters" waiting for his breakfast...he acted like nothing had every happened.

Don't worry, he'll do fine.

Yes, it feels a bit traumatic handing your 'baby' over to when you know it's going to be unpleasant for him. Please don't worry though, he'll be fine. Neutering is a very minor operation for male cats. When my two boys were done, they didn't even have any stitches. They walked like John Wayne for a couple of days :-), but they were absolutely fine.

The thing to remember is that althougn he's having a bit of discomfort, you are saving him a lot of problems later on, because unneutered toms tend to wander off and get into danger. They also get injured in fights a lot. You are also being a responsible pet owner, as he could father literally hundreds of strays if left entire.

In a couple of hours he'll be home and it'll all be over - and he won't hold it against you. You've done the right thing.

Well first off you did a good thing. MORE so him being an indoor cat. I say this was male cats spray. They mark their territory so to speak. BUT if you get them neutered as you're doing they do not. This is IF they are neutered young enough. 6 months is young enough. And cats I believe do sense they are going to the vets. And I also think all cats react differently. I own four cats and they all re-act differently when I take any of them to the vet.

i know exactly how you feel:(

i had to have my 8 month old male cat neutered because he was getting really violent with his playing.

it was such a bad experience for me, he was so scared and doing little baby meows. then when i brought him home, he was all depressed for ages, nothing like the cat i loved and i regreted it straight away but after a while he got back to normal, minus the violence and plus alot more affection:D

when his wound was healing though, he kept over cleaning it and the wound kept opening and bleeding all over the place so he had to have a coller put on by the vet which i could tell was VERY uncomfotable for him, esspecially cos he had to wear it all the time, even when sleeping or he just went straight back to his wound:(

im dreading having to go through the same thing again if i got another male cat but it has to be done if i dont wana wake up in the night with my cats claws inbeded in my face or something:(

It is a very hard to see them beg for food and you can't give them any. I've gone through this several times with several cats. They just don't understand what they can't ear. Our pets a creatures of habit. My cat Mia wants to be given her food first thing before I have coffee in the morning. Then her litter must be scooped clean as she will got straight to her litter box and meow after she gets her fresh food (fancy feast moist) & chilled spring drinking water from the refrigator. It is our routine and that is what most of our pets thrive on. So when we can
t stick to the routine they are confused. You sweet little boy will be fine.He may be hungrey for the rest of the day but you'll have to thoughen up and not let him eat untill next day because of the ill effects of the sleepinf medication given to him for his surgery. It will be hard but I think thw two of you will be able to get threw this fine. Give your sweet little boy a hug for me.

When we got our cat neutered when he returned from the vet he was fine, just a little dozy and wobbly on his feet for a while. He just ate some food and slept for a long time.

It was quite nice actually, he sat still long enough for us to give him lots of love and cuddles which usually he was far too busy playing for!

By the next day he was good as gold, so nothing to worry about :)

I know that you are feeling bad and concerned but you have to think about the good you are doing. When you get your cat neutered you are reducing the chances of it getting cancer and making the cat happier because its hormones won't be affecting it anymore making it want to fight or run off any chance it gets.
It will only take a couple of days of healing and will be back to normal and have forgotten all about it.

You are doing the right thing and he will be fine soon. My male cat got out of the house the night after his operation and jumped up a fence and climed a tree so there was no long term effects on him. Billy will be fine - just be kind and considerte to him when he comes home - feed him and will forgive and forget.
