Hello Everyone! =)
I've always wanted to be a Doctor, but I am 24 and have two kids now so I think this is impossible. So I'm sorta giving up my dream ;-( But I LOVE the medical field. SO I was Thinking about becoming a Physicians Assistant or a Registered Nurse. I wanted to know what is better? As far as pay, finding jobs, tasks, best schools? And How long it takes? PLEASE HELP ME. I need AS MANY RESPONSES AS POSSIBLE to help me decide. I am going to try and register for school for spring. =) Thank you all in advance.

Both professions are great. As a doctor, I consider my PA's and Nurses (RN's, LP-N's, NA's) my "right hands". We are not just colleagues, we are family.

Why can't you be a doctor? Age has nothing to do with it. Yes, it will be very difficult raising two kids and going to med school, but nothing in life is easy.

Look, I started my medical career as a Nurses Aide, and later on continued to medical school to become a doctor. It may take some time, but it is worth it.

It will take you 4 years to get your BS degree with a major in nursing and after that further training to be a nurse practitioner. I am not sure how long it takes to be a Physicians Assistant but I would assume probably the same time frame. When it comes time to find a job a nurse has a lot more opportunities. It is simple we need more nurses. Pay is something else again. Most nurses make decent money (I think they are not paid enough for the tremendous job they do). Again I don't know what a Physicians Assistant makes. You don't say where you live but find the best school in your state that you can. Start with your state university and go from there. By the way 24 is not too old and having 2 kids is not a reason not to try. You could be a doctor in about 8 years and add another 1 or 2 for training in a specialty that makes you 34 again not old and the example you set for your kids would be huge. That is not just telling them to aim high but showing them that they can achieve their dream. My advice go for what YOU have always dreamed of.

A Physicians Assistant pays more but after you get your RN you have to get your BS and than Master. Depending upon the Nursing school that could take as much as four years. My daughter is starting today on her last semester to be an RN and the school she attends takes two years, but most take three years. She took on line 80% of her BS and she plans to continue on to become a midwife which takes an extra two years. She thought about being a Physicians but she loves working in OB which she does as an ex tern in the hospital. You can find all of this on the Internet which would give you the most accurate information.

Being a Nurse will be A) more interesting B)more in demand C) give you more responsibility and respect D) pay better and E) require more studying. Your choice, but I've known several people who started off as assistants and then realized they should've become full-blown nurses. Some were able to go back to school, others were too old and hence stuck as an assistant.

A PA is usually a better paying job than an NP, albeit by a small margin. If you want to know who makes more money, then a PA is the winner; however, a nurse practitioner is usually more experienced. The problem with the NP is likely due to the title.
