to get the holy ghost and later on stop believing ?
my family says once you get it it never leaves you.

Well No It's Not Possible! Because It's A Gift From God! Once You Get It You Stay With It! If God Thought You Would Turn Away From Him He Wouldn't Have Gave It To You In The First Place!

Once a Christian is indwelt with the Holy Spirit upon belief then yes it never leaves them, however the influences of this world are strong and one can be pulled back into the life that they once lived before their belief in Christ. But, when this happens one could question whether they were an actual believer in the first place.
We are all sinners and sin is strong. One must keep prayerful and always in Gods world in order to refrain from sin.

Indeed, according to Christian beliefs once you receive the holy ghost it never leaves you, but this doesn't mean you can't stop believing in god or in Christ... Is your choice, as a Christian I would advice you to keep your fate if there is anything left, if not try to believe again. Religion is important not only for oneself salvation, but also for all humanity... Without any fate in a god, I am sure society would have been hell... Religion makes people behave, be humane, and have know right from wrong.

Also it is the HOLY SPIRIT not ghost. The Holy Spirit is NOT some spook floating around in the air.
God has also said that "My Spirit will not ALWAYS strive with man" Keep rejecting the Holy Spirit and you will see for yourself what will happen.

No it is not possible, but It's true what your famliy says. Because God says "i will never leave you or forsake you." You might have backslidded or made some mistake going through your walk, but the Holy Spirit will always be there with you.

I think the once Truth has been revealed to you, it isn't possible to not know Truth. People can backslide,but cannot honestly justify it. Could you ever stop believing that 2+2=4? Kind of hard once you know it's true.
