Microwave radiation has an insufficient energy to truly ionise (meaning breaking and making very reactive) anything. Actually, it is the best way to heat up things, because the heat comes from the object itself. So things don't get all burned up (and produce known carcinogens) in a microwave unless you heat it for an unreasonnable lenght of time (and in that case, the food becomes inedible anyway).

the microwave energy within the microwave is hazardous, but very little gets out, so it is not a concern. As far as plastics and micros, the results are inconclusive, some studies say they are bad, some don't find any negative effects. I personally only use glass, ceramic, and paper in the micro. Most experts agree that the micro does not affect the nutritional value of food. To my knowledge, NO study has found a link between microwaving food and cancer. If someone does, I'm sure it will make the evening news. So I don't think you have much to worry about.

There is no evidence that this is the case
However---consuming food too rapidly FROM the microwave is not a good thing ---food should be allowed "stand time" for approximately half of the timed cooking period because---food from a microwave---continues to cook for approximately a third of the time it has been in the microwave once it is removed !! And, this is whether it is standing on your counter top or on its way down your throat !!!!!

I believe that it does cause cancer as microwaves emit small amounts of radiation and it stands to reason that the radiation is left on the food you are about to eat. I would like to warn you that just because the FDA says it is ok for you doesn't mean it is. FDA is another bureaucracy that runs off from big business interests.

Absolutely not. It is only hot b/c the microwaves make the molecules jiggle, causing friction, which makes heat. Even though people might colloquially say they are going to "nuke" their food in the microwave, there is absolutely nothing radioactive about it. Chemically and in terms of physics, its no different than heating your food in the oven or on the stove.

It certainly is better not to eat it from a microwave. It may be years before they know just how bad microwaved food is for us! Just like cell phones & other things that probably aren't nearly as safe as they want us to believe.
