he probably doesn't believe you because in Americam a fa**ot is a homosexual, and he certainly wouldn't like to eat one of them. Of course he may want to if he's that way inclined.

Faggots: According to a professional chef from Hub-UK "The 'unfortunate' name is derived from the original word, which means a mixture or combination of. Faggots were always popular back in Welsh history, the miners might keep a pig and the faggots were an easily carried lunch when they needed nourishment for their strenuous work underground."
In this regard faggots are made up of offal, a mixture of kidney, liver, heart and tripe.
Brittania states that:
Faggots, or savoury ducks as they are called in some parts of Britain are thought to be of Roman origin. Faggots can be left until cold, if desired, then broken apart and reheated in a tin, covered with foil, in a moderate oven for 25 minutes.

A fagg0t is a kind of meatball, a traditional dish in the UK, especially the southwest of England, Wales, and the Black Country. It is made from unwanted meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork. A fagg0t is traditionally made from pig heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon minced together, with herbs added for flavouring and sometimes breadcrumbs. The mixture is shaped in the hand into balls, wrapped round with "caul" (a membrane from the pig's abdomen), and baked.
The first use in print cited in the OED is in 1851, from Thomas Mayhew, although this appears to be a calzone or pasty-like dish, with an outer wrapper of caul, covering an filling of mixed pork offal. This was in London.
The dish saw its greatest popularity with the rationing during World War II but has become less popular in recent years. Faggots are usually homemade and are to be found in traditional butchers' shops and market stalls.
A popular dish is "faggots and peas," which is often served with gravy. The fagg0t and pea batch is a common post-pub snack in the West Midlands.

Savoury Faggots have been around for centuries in the UK. The modern expression of Faggots comes from America and is used as a derogatory name for a homosexual.

Yes they are really lovely meatball type things in gravy. Mr Brain makes good ones. They are suspicious and un-healthy like sausages, so are not so popular these days Their comical name probably didn't help their advertising either.
