hi mine can count upto 20 but varies from time to time no doubt your 3yr old is clever and is unique in every way whether its drawing creativity, etc your child is clever no matter what or how they do things and surprising enough they can teach you a thing or two eg my son told me how to make pancakes they seem to shock you when not expecting it.
remember your child is unique and special in every way and they have there own personalitys.

Please ignore all negative comments on your own spelling, appalling though it is. This will not help you educate your child. All children are different. Most children can count to at least 10, recognise letters etc. My daughter could write her name at about 3 1/2 as I used to give her dotty letters to trace over. The more you put in, the more you'll get out, so read to them and do lots of singing number songs 12345, once i caught a fish alive etc. Also google family learning, really useful activities on these sites. Also your local library runs activities that will help teach ABC's and counting.
If you feel your own spelling holds you back, try a basic skills course in literacy. They are free and usually run alongside a childcare provider.

Can do his ABC forwards and backwards!! He counts, he names the planets from the sun outwards and he can read very well, not just short words but long words too. In fact, he scares the bejeesus out of me sometimes and I worry that I wont be able to cope if he learns much more.

However, he is really lazy when it comes to physical activities and is probably age appropriate emotionally and physically although his cognative skills are very advances.

All kids have a talent and all are rubbish at other stuff too!

Well, if we're having a "peeing" match about three year olds......My three year old knows all letters, uppercase, lowercase, and letter sounds. He already reads small words without trying. He speaks so clearly that he sounds more like a ten year old than a three year old. People are usually shocked to find out he's only three after talking to him. He can "recite" the numbers up to twenty like most kids this age but knows the actual representative values of numbers through twelve.
I think what's most important, socially and emotionally he's three years old.

My son is 3 1/2 and i always worry about his develpoment. He can count up to 11 the make all kinds of number up after that. He can go one day knowing upto G in the alphabet then M the next. We was wrting his name and letting him copy it which he done great then about two weeks after that he wrote it without copying it, he did this for about a week then stopped and now acts like hes never been taught. What im trying to say is that they do things at different rates and nine times out of ten they have you on. Im always worried about hime like i said but just keep reading to him/her sing alphabet songs and lots of paper work. writing drawing ect. If your worried speak to your Health Visitor.

My daughter just turned three, and she can: count to ten, recognize letters from the alphabet, knows shapes, basic colors, can write the letter A, draw circles, triangles, and semi-straight lines. She also speaks really well when not whining. However, we are still dealing bottle and potty training issues.

At 3 my son could count to 40, knew his shapes like rectangle, diamond, oval as well as the basic circle, square, star. He knew which way is north, south, east & west, he knew colours like silver, pink, light blue, dark blue, navy blue, brown, beige, teal, crimson, violet and those other funny in between colors (its amazing just how many different shades of colours there are on the cars). Oh yes and he could write his name too.

Now he's 4 he can count to 100.
