It is highly likely that you are having a low blood sugar episode which is why you get the cravings.
Aim to eat more carbohydrate (ie bread, potato, rice, cous cous etc) with each meal which is slow energy release - but do not do the sugar as that gives you a quick high followed fairly soon after by a crashing fall! These types of carbs are not fattening - it is what you put on them that makes you keep the weight!
As for what to snack on - assuming you are not actually diabetic, you could try those cereal bars or fruits such as grapes or raisins - though those are high sugar too - (fructose) followed by a sandwich or something. You could also try a large glass of milk. That is energy giving, presuming you are not lactose intolerant.
I would not dream of carrot sticks - they do nothing for you. I had an aunt who was a vegan and health food freak and who ate so many carrots that she died of some kind of mineral poisoning - I think it was calcium.
Well done you for keeping to your workout/diet regime. Stick at it and do not lose heart!

Try any other fruit, there are lots out there!! Try mango or lychee's, very sweet so they satisfy a sweet craving. Or Dry fruits, like apricots and pears? Nuts are great, stick to unsalted. Or how about raw veggies (not carrots, but try celery, cherry tomatoes, even raw cauliflower) dipped into hummus.

Sugar-free chewing gums especially ones sweetened w/ xylitol can give you something to munch on & be beneficial for your teeth. Brushing your teeth can also help, it makes some foods taste 'off' afterwards. Drink a big glass of ice cold water, you may just be thirsty. A hard boiled egg or any protein rich food in moderation & small portions can help control your urges too.

Why don't you try a handful of almonds, or some other nut, or dried fruit. They're pretty filling. Or try eating some hummus!
