Hand baggage restrictions
Passengers are allowed to carry ONE item of hand baggage, no larger than:

56 centimetres tall (approximately 22 inches)
45 centimetres wide (approximately 17.7 inches)
25 centimetres deep (approximately 10 inches)
through the airport security search point. Please note, this is the maximum bag size allowed through security. Smaller bag sizes may apply depending on which airline you travel with. We therefore advise you to contact your airline.

Other bags, such as handbags, may be carried WITHIN the single item of cabin baggage, not in addition. All items carried by passengers will be X-ray screened. Cameras, (including digital, small electrical items such as mobile phones, MP3 players and game consoles can remain in the bag for screening. However, all laptops and large electrical items must be removed from the bag and placed in a separate tray.

Hello,

ANS:- No.1 I would definately contact your airline, the airline company you are flying with as they will definately be able to tell you about this in some detail.

No.2 This information may well be available on the airlines website or the website of Gatwick Airport.

No.3 Failing that you could phone a local travel agency and they would very very likely know in detail what the limits & allownces are both on weight & sizes.

**My understanding is that you are now allowed only x1 peice of hand luggage, a small sized case slightly larger than a laptop computer case as hand luggage but I dont know the weight allowences on hand luggage. I know the airlines do have strict limits on fluids such as perfumes & shampoos etc. Within the hand luggage itself, its all to do with increased security though.

next to restrictions on size as mentioned above, most important these days is that you are not allowed to take any sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc) and restrictions on liquids.

You can only take liquids (fluids, lipgloss, creams, etc.) in containers with a maximum contents of 100ml. These liquids should be stored in a clear resealable plastic bag with a maximum contents of 1 liter. Only on bag per person. This bag should be handed over at the security check seperately from the other hand luggage.

the restrictions have relaxed a little now but you can get an up to date list from the BAA website.

In general you arenot allowed to take any sharp ie, nail scissors, knitting needles knives razors etc. Any liquids need to be in your hold luggage unless bought after you have cleared security.

Try to keep your hand luggage at a minium only take the essential items on board with you. Any medication needs to have a doctors certificate with them to prove that they are needed for the flight etc.

It really is best to check with the airline that you're flying with. If you look on their website you will find all the information on there.
