I've been told that eating a teaspoon of baking soda soothes an upset stomach. I have not done that since I was a kid so I can't tell you about the results because I don't remember. But I do brush my teeth with it before I use my toothpaste and I'm sure some gets swallowed... nothing bad has happened to me! But the person above is right, baking soda is used in a lot of foods so it is safe to eat.
