The chicken is about 1.5 lbs. of boneless, skinless breast tenders, completely sealed in its original package, wrapped in a produce bag, which was inside a regular plastic grocery bag. The room Temp was no more than 68 degrees or so. I would cook the chicken by seasoning and then boiling it.
I have two children under 3 who would be consuming the meal. If there is too much of a health risk, I will promtly throw it out. However, we are on a very limited budget, and $4.00 worth of chicken is a lot to throw out right now!

Any suggestions are appreciated!

I'm pretty certain it would be quite safe to cook.

When it comes to chicken and pork, I am very careful. I probably would throw it away. I have never had or wanted to have any type of Food contamination illness. For that matter, I don't want to make anyone sick either. From my understanding, chicken and pork take very little to begin producing undesired bacterium. Ground beef is in the same category.

I should think it would be safe - just make sure it is well and truly cooked through - as you should anyway.

Don't worry, I have been distracted while unpacking and have left stuff out longer than that and come to no harm. I can well imagine how difficult it is to concentrate with 2 toddlers. Rather you than me!!

The chicken should be fine (as long as it doesn't smell bad or feel real slimy. But I'd be real careful about cross contamination of the counter, your hands, anything the raw chicken and its juices touch.

put a table spoon of vinegar in it while you are boiling it , it kills bacteria and tenderizes it( and rinse it first) then you can dump the water out and even bake it' good & safe

smell it. if it doesn't smell rotten, it is safe. anyway, 4 hours is a very short time for meat to go bad, unless you live in sahara desert or something.

Was it frozen when you pulled it out? If it was, it should still be fine.
