THe general length of time for an SSRI to show effectiveness (which is what Prozac is) is 3-4 weeks.
If it is a "true or acute" OCD case such as obsessing over door locks etc, a good option to ask about is Clomipramine (Anafranil) whichj has a number of different chemical properties helpful in OCD treatment

How should I take Prozac?
Take Prozac exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Do not crush, chew, break, or open a delayed-release capsule. Swallow it whole.
It may take up to 4 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.
Do not stop using Prozac suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to safely stop using Prozac.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

2 weeks. Prozac is usually not the drug of choice for OCD. Tell her to give it 2 months and if this isn't helping, she may need a switch. Luvox is another alternative. I hope things get better soon and she gets the relief she deserves.

everyone has different results with Prozac. Give the meds a month to see how they effect you personally. Sometimes the side effects will be more severe at first then you body will get used to the meds. consult your doctor if the side effects are severe

Her doctor certainly should have explained all this to her.
Prozac is not an immediate "cure-all". It will take 3 weeks to a month (sometimes sooner) for the medication to get fully into her system to work efficiently. She should keep in contact with her doctor for any possible side-effects, and in many cases, the first drug tried won't necessarily be the one that will work. I wish her luck.

It is difficult to say how long exactly as it all depends on whether she beileives they will work for her or not, if she doesn't believe they can help it will take longer to work because without consciously knowing it her body is putting up a barrier against them. However if she does think they will work for her, it can take up to three months to notice any effect. I will warn you it may affect her libido, it can either go up or down, so watch out!
