Many crimes have been solved by hunch (try this in google 'hunch solves crime') just like I did on a hunch ...lol and you will see it happens. Is it not valid to say that since there is no conclusive evidense for or against a matter we shall go with a hunch?

although scientists and don't talk about it much - hunch and intuition are a very important part of the scientific process. Where do you think all the scientific theories come from - someone had to dream them up in the first place. Then they get tested.

The important thing in science and logic is that after you have a hunch you test it to see if it is true or not - hunches are not considered proof, but they are considered very useful.

So i think any person who considers themselves scientific should agree with you. Unfortunately i do know a lot who don't...

It may sound stupid or even non-scientific...

I once had my AP Physics Professor tell me that if I 'thought the answer was something but could not prove it, use that answer anyway'.

His theory was that something was causing me to believe in that because of a "hunch"... and that later on the pieces would fit for a scientific explanation.

Usually my 'hunches' turn out to be true, and it was something that my subconscious noticed but my conscious mind had ignored at first.
