My daughter is 21, very intelligent and attractive. She's contemplating careers.

I'm just wondering if I should encourage this one.

Thanks for any advice!

Here are some sites you might want to check out with Flight attendant job postings: http://www.avjobs.com/ and http://www.flightattendantcareer.com/

You can also locate private jet operators in your area here: http://www.legfind.com/SiteMap.aspx?SiteMap=Operators who may have a need for a flight attendant.

Good luck with the job hunting!

I was a flight attendant for two and half years. I started when I was 19 years old. You need to make sure your daughter understands that it is a life style. Gone for 2-6 days at a time but the up side is you get to be off 2-4 days depending on the line(schedule) you have. It can be a lot of hurry up and wait due to of course weather, air traffic control, and maintance. They also have in airlines which they call a reserve period. Which is an on-call basis and gives you these lines according to your senority. And when I mean on-call, I mean on-call... most have an average of a one to two hour call out. Which means they call you and you need to be at the airport dressed and ready to fly within that time period provided. Now this reserve period depends on the airline. Some rotate to make it fair for everyone involved, others make the bottom of the list (meaning your daughter when she starts out) pull it 'til their senority grows. I would have gone to another airline except at the time most reserve periods were about 5 years long. Personally, this was the hardest part for me. I always felt like I had no time to myself or down time... even on days they don't fly you the whole day you are waiting for a call. Airlines can beat you up a bit too during this period because you are still on probation. And since most new flight attendants are young they use that too. Make sure your daughter looks out for herself and follows all the FAA rules and she will be just fine.

I told you all of that so you would know what I didn't know about the industry. But besides from all that stuff that I had to learn, I loved it! And I wish I was still doing it. They have a saying when it comes to flight attendants "it's either in your blood or it isn't." And believe me she will find this out real soon.

Hey, I'm a flight attendant working for Skywest Airlines (code sharing airline). We're actually hiring out the wazoo right now. The only down side is you need to be willing to relocate.

Its a very good career (given the right airline) and it has lots of good benefits.

Check out Skywest.com for details on my company, and I think we're about the only airline hiring so many fight attendants right now.

I love being a flight attendant. I live here in Colorado Springs with my wife and couldn't be happier for a job like this coming out of college. Its not to shabby at all.

When I used to be a salesperson for United Aircraft again within the 1970's (earlier than they grew to become United Technologies) I traveled internationally developing and dealing with the layout of producing crops for plane components far and wide from Israel to Norfolk, Virginia. One factor I found out, if not anything else, used to be that the Flight Attendants have their position some of the cohabitation inside the aircraft. It's convenient to appreciate in case you think a flight with out those humans. Picture a 5 hour flight from Hartford, Connecticut to San Diego, California, and think having to rise up and get your possess bag of peanuts from the cupboard, or having to get that ache-in-the-neck saving pillow from the little room among educate and top quality. What approximately beverages? Would you fairly decide upon to concoct your possess vodka tonic, or is sitting again taking note of song at the headphones even as a tender woman prepares it for you simply an excessive amount of of a carrier? Put all this apart. Flight Attendants have constantly served me good to their capability and to the measure where I tip them. Sure, they are going to nearly forget about the person who lays again and continued the flight in his possess little global together with his eyes closed, however for me the flight used to be constantly a social celebration and the flight attendants have been the pre-wrapped, unmarried serving, use simply as soon as, disposable fifteen mins of affection that, with out which, my flight could were a terrible enjoy. So supply a few props to the FA's for what they do, please. Thanks.

Its a great career move with several choices for moving on - once your trained up by one airline, you're a great candidate for any airline. I got accepted to my airline at 18, anything is possible! The pay is reasonable, the travel perks are amazing...

Being prepared for your interview is essential. Know the important peoples names, know the basics of the airline history, they'll be impressed if you slip in a few random facts. At the assessment days in activities always think of others, say things like "what do you think?" and "what's your opinion?". I'm sure your daughter can do it, if I can!
Good luck

Its not difficult at all if she is the type of person the airline is looking for. The recruitment process is designed to weed out the applicants who only want the job for the percieved glamour, and to find those who want it because they genuinely want to do it. There is also a personality 'type' that they want - again, their recruitment process is very good at finding them.

Being intelligent and attractive is a good start. But there is a lot more to it than just those qualities. Extensive customer service experience and the ability to work under intense pressure while maintaining a smile at all times is probably the main qualities needed for people entering this industry for the first time.

One thing you mentioned that is a bit of a concern. "I'm just wondering if I should encourage this one". For her to be a success as a FA and to enjoy it, she'll need to be the one who wants to do it, not need you to encourage her to do it. (I may be wrong, but from the tone of your question it may be you wanting her to do it?)

Not at all. They are constantly hiring. The problem is, they like to hire local people that live in their hub location.
