I would never go out with a guy for 2 to 5 years and only treat him like a friend.

Is that possible.

I would imagine Id eventualy fall for himover the years and say yes to his proposal.

I'm think you should take the ring back. If it's been a 'courtship' for this long but no real relationship then you're ONLY A FRIEND to her or she keeps you around because you're handy...
Do you do lots of things for her? Pick her up when she needs a lift? Buy her stuff or pay for things a lot? If you answer yes to those, she keeps you around because it suits her. If she isn't putting out after all this time or showing signs of at least wanting to (if you're into that no sex before marriage crap) then it's a friendship only and probably one of convenience.. her convenience. Don't do it, she won't say yes.

The ring doesn't change anything. He should've thought about asking for marriage before purchasing the ring. Why should I marry a friend just because he bought me a diamond ring with my name on it? That's being materialistic..I would only marry a guy/friend if I loved him more than a friend and was looking for commitment.

It depends on the age of the couple - I believe that if the relationship is one way the honourabe thing to do is let the person who loves you go so that they can get on with their life and find someone who will love them - they deserve to be loved and if you don't let them go you are being selfish- - - -however as you get older you realise that things change and that some people get married not just for love but for companionship, friendship, security and lots of other reasons ----- providing the gentleman in question is aware of the situation and he still proposes and everyone is happy then why not

If there are no feelings of love ,affection and commitment, marriage is out.The ring can be sold for a lower price. But there must have been some understanding given after 2-5 years.Clear the air.

Don't get married. I could care less if he had my dog's name engraved on a ring. I still wouldn't do it.
