have you ever been told how or why?

hair has a natural breaking point. when it gets to a certain length or weight it falls out (each hair). the roots are like fingers holding onto the edge of a cliff with you hanging on. you can only hang on for so long by yourself (so the roots can only hang on so long with the weight of the hair).
by keeping your hair braided it gives support to every other hair.

so make sure your hair is dry when braiding (wet hair is heavy). take it out to shampoo and dry your hair. if you want to leave it down for a party or other occassion, that's o..k. , but try to keep it braided as long as possible. take it down every couple of days to brush and shampoo and dry.
you will loose some hairs, but not as many. and they will be growing longer.

just so you know. it will make your scalp hurt. there's a reason for the 'breaking point'.
