There are few ways. if you are having a branded PC search the manufacturers site for the model of PC and sound drives would be available on the support page for download.

If you have gone with a assembled PC and lost the CD which came with the mother board you can make a guess about what the sound card can be by going to Start>Control Panel> System>Device Manager.

Go to USB Devices and if the Chip is I820 thin its intel and likely Audio card would be AC97 Serach google for AC97 drivers.

If you see SIS789 or some number serach google for sis audio drivers similarly for VIA etc.

Or you can install Share ware softwares like Everest Personal edition from download.com which would give you a detailed Software and Hardware report of your system and will also include the links for the drivers website.

Follow these steps
1.Hold windowskey+pausebreak it will display system properties dialog box

2.Under Hardware Tab==>go to Device Manager==>Sound,video and Gamecontrollers

Now,u will be able to see the manufacturer

Ex: say Sound Max or Intel Intgrated audio

Go to specific company's site and choose the drivers suitable for ur motherboard.

You can search for the suitable driver in DriverGuide.com. They also provide a tool to find out a suitable driver for your h/w. All you need is the internet Connection.

if you have a compaq or hp or a brand computer go to their website and type your model and then download the software if its a built computer try to open the case and see the brand name of the mother board and model lets say its a pc chips copy the model and go to their web site and download the audio driver
